Family Festival including live music for four nights Thursday to Sunday. Bands include Storm, Dublin City Ramblers, Lightning Strikes and The Outlaws. Children’s events, bingo, sean-nós dancing, children’s fancy dress disco, Irish dancing, traditional Irish music. Lots of fun events for children in a safe environment.
Newport Regatta Club facilitates watersports on the Quay for young and old. Activities include kayaking, swimming, diving, (from our custom made diving platform), water trampoline, water zorbing/rolling, and many more.

Following on from the very successful Daniel Peacock National/Junior Memorial Competition held on the 8th July 2012, the Newport Sea Angling Club will be hosting the 46th Annual Festival Fishing Competitions this bank holiday weekend. The Shore competition is being held on Saturday 4th August 2012 – entries for this competition must be in by the evening of Tuesday 31st July 2012. The Open Boat competition is being held on Sunday 5th August 2012 – there are still a few boat spaces available but you need to be quick to book your place – please call Sue on 086 3862568 if you wish to enter either of these competitions.
Entrants for the Shore Competition on Saturday 4th – to meet at Roigh Pier for checking in at 09.30 am departing 09.45 am returning approximately 5.00 pm followed by presentation at Nevin’s Bar, Main Street, Newport.
Entrants for the Open Boat Competition on Sunday 5th – meeting at Newport Quay – checking in at 10.00 am departing 10.30 am, returning approximately 5.30 pm followed by presentation at The Bridge Inn, Main Street, Newport.
Lots of prizes for both Senior and Junior categories – let’s hope the weather will hold and we will have a glorious day with lots of craic and lots of good fishing for all.
The 33rd McGee International Invitational Handball Tournament takes place this August bank holiday weekend. A large contingent of handballers are expected from all over Ireland with many of them fine looking to hone their skills in advance of the World Championships, which are to be held in Dublin this October.
The Juveniles will begin their games on Friday evening in the Newport ball alley, while the Senior games will be held in ball alleys in Newport, Mulranny, Castlebar (three venues) and Aughagower on Saturday.
A Barbeque will take place on Saturday night at Newport ball alley, during which the Juvenile finals will take place.
Finals will be held on Sunday in Newport, while the Plate finals will take place in Mulranny. The games will conclude with a presentation buffet in Hotel Newport.
So if you want to watch Ireland's oldest traditional sport, please come along and join us over the weekend.
